PROGRAM SUMMARY

In an effort to provide support and information to parents on how they can help their children succeed in school, the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT) launched the PARENTS COUNT website in September 2000.

The impact and influence parents have on their children, particularly teenagers, is often underestimated. Many parents interviewed in focus groups expressed feelings of frustration and helplessness and a sense that their teenage children tuned them out. In fact, research shows that no other single message affects a child more than one delivered by his or her parents.

In this fast-paced, sound-byte world where we all try to make the most effective use of the little leisure time we have, we wanted to create a site that would arm parents with strategies to help their children succeed in school.

PARENTS COUNT provides easy-to-use information and pointers to help parents help their children.
